I get the pleasure of working with clients who are relocating to St. Louis from all across the country.  There are many communities in St. Louis from which to choose, and one of my top picks is University City, or U City as it is called by locals.

U City is unique in that it has a great mix of architectural style and home sizes.  The city’s founder, Edward Gardner Lewis, had the insight to make the area into viable neighborhoods, not housing tracts.  This helps set the city apart from others; you don’t have to worry about pulling up to the wrong driveway when you come home.

The houses have unique personalities and some of them have been around since the 1904 World’s Fair. Most people don’t get the opportunity to live in a piece of history.  My mother grew up in a house that was built for the World’s Fair back when you lived in a big house because you had a big family.

While house-hunting, it is easy to get sidetracked by the lure of getting more square footage or a newer house by moving further out West, but we must remember that there are trade-offs.  By choosing University City, you get a solid home with character; you have access to numerous parks and community centers, and are minutes from countless locally-owned restaurants and shops.  U City offers a wonderful farmers’ market, and of course, the Loop which expands further east each year.

Residents possess a pride for their city, pride in their homes and making their community THE PLACE to call home.  U City has neighborhoods that are fitting for young couples just starting out, those who have started a family and need more room, and for those who are empty nesters.

Many of U City’s residents have returned after being raised there, which speaks volumes for the city’s charm and moral fiber.  If you are looking for someplace to call home, either permanently or just for the next year it is hard to go wrong in U City.

How can I be so confident and vocal that U City is the place to be?  My husband and I have called it home ever since we’ve been married.
